Dorothy Agius was born in Gozo, Malta.  At an early age she moved to Windsor, Canada to join her biological Mother.  She was raised in both Canada and Michigan.  When she was 19 she moved to Los Angeles, California.

Dorothy’s artistic journey began in her childhood.  She copied comic strips and eventually worked at developing her skills as a realist.    Artists such as Rembrandt, John Singer Sargent,  Jerry Yarnell, Chris Separ, Lesley Harrison and others, represent the style she aspires to.   Because she has such a love for animals, she practices drawing and painting all the animals she can.  For almost two decades she operated a pet sitting/dog walking service which provided many wonderful dogs, cats and others to paint.  Most of Dorothy’s work is pet and people portraits (commission work): scenes of horses in the open air, sleeping dogs in the afternoon sun and others.  Dorothy captures the essence of her subject with a careful focus on the eyes.   The media she works with are Oils, Pastels and sometimes watercolors.

Dorothy is self-taught using books and the internet as tools to better her skills.   While in high school she took a few art classes where she was exposed to many art materials.

Dorothy desires to be an artist known for creating paintings that represent the love between a human being and his/her fur-baby.  Also, painting portraits of loved one’s humans is always a joy.
